Evolutionary Suicide
I was reading the tragedy of the commons as part of the sustainability class, and came across the term evolutionary suicide. The concept is that adaptation at the individual level can lead to extinction of the entire population. Now, the last reference in the wikipedia article provides a very nice example of the same (possible example, of course)

I can suggest another example - how if one person in a batch (or a dept.) does exceedingly well, the rest of the batch (or dept.), no matter how good their scores, end up with average grades. I cite the case of one Punyashloka Biswal, circa 2001.
@bard... would it not be possible to post your poem written in the sorrow of his farewell be posted somewhere here? Or would it be a copyright infringement?
(btw, should we ask the biswal abt this)?
It could be most certainly be possible and there is no copyright involved. Plus, who cares what the Biswal thinks.
